|Islamic Center Condemns Anti-Semitic Intimidation Against Local Landmark Institution
|A recent event in Cincinnati has caused our local community great concern. On 1/3/17, unknown perpetrators committed an act of vandalism at Hebrew Union College when they spray painted a swastika on a campus sign.
Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion is a landmark educational institution in Cincinnati which has been a symbol of diversity and pluralism from its inception. Although the swastika has been removed and local police have been informed, this is a matter that should concern all Cincinnatians. This despicable act of anti-Semitism was meant not only to offend, but to intimidate local Jews. We will not tolerate bigotry or prejudice against any of our fellow Cincinnatians.
The Islamic Center of Greater Cincinnati condemns in the strongest terms this cowardly act against a religious institution of higher education. We urge law enforcement to investigate this matter as a hate crime, to bring the perpetrators to justice and to assure the safety of all at Hebrew Union College.
We hope that people of conscience everywhere will join in condemning this incident.
Shakila T. Ahmed, President
Islamic Center of Greater Cincinnati
